Drum Teacher Bryan Smith
Bryan Smith started playing drums in Houston, Texas and started taking formal drum lessons at which time he joined a local original rock band which was successful in having their video aired on a local TV rock show and performed at the Miller High Life Rock Festival opening for Greg Kihn and Eric Johnson.
Bryan then moved to Los Angeles and graduated Musicians Institute in Hollywood (P.I.T.), during this time he was lucky enough to get an audition with Three Dog Night. He didn't get the gig but it was a great experience. He then joined a heavy metal band in Los Angeles called Malachia and played around in Heavy Metal Clubs like The Whisky, Club Lingerie, The Waters Club and The Famous Troubadour. They recorded an album which was mastered at E.M.I. (they did not have a record deal).
In time he joined a full- time working cover band and traveled around western Canada, California and Arizona for about 2 years. An opportunity to go on the road with the Coasters, the Platters, Leslie Gore, the Dixie Cups and Bobby Freeman was accepted which took him on tour for 6 months to all of the Fairmont hotels in America. After the tour he worked around the Los Angeles area in various cover bands.
Eventually he moved to Las Vegas and landed a house gig at the Dunes for 6 months and while working the casinos full time, decided to start his own band called Heart & Soul. Their first gig was at the Stardust and traveled overseas with 3 months in Korea, 3 months in Hong Kong, back to Korea for 6 months (at the Grand Hyatt), Japan for 4 months and then to the island of Guam (Agana Way Hotel). After this they traveled to Germany, Hungary and Bosnia to perform for the U.S. military.
Upon completion of the tour they started working on Royal Caribbean cruise ships for about 5 years. After running his own band Bryan decided he just wanted to be a drummer in someone else's band and joined a cover band in Vegas called Front Page. While the band is still together Bryan left after 2 years.
Bryan has extensive experience in all styles of music. He also reads music.
These days you will find him teaching drum lessons on Mondays and Tuesdays at the Desert Breeze Recreation Center on Spring Mountain Road. He taught drum lessons at the Hollywood Recreation Center in Las Vegas for about 2 years (2014 - 2016) and is also currently in the big band at the Community College.
